Kiro, I got your little package today! Many, many thanks - it's lovely, and thoughtful, and black was definitely the way to go. ^_^
Also. Have had this finished up and sitting in drafts a day or so. Meme stolen from Sorcha 'bout three weeks ago at least:
Name ten of life's simple pleasures that you like most. Try to be original and creative and not to use things that someone else has already used.
1. Music. Not that music is an entirely simple concept and I know it's been said by others already, but it really is the 'simple pleasure' that tops my list.
2. Singing, never mind that I may or may not do it well. There's something about singing along with the radio/cd/mp3/etc that just feels good. It's not about technical proficiency or even really trying to sound 'good'; it's about just emoting with the music and being a part of it in some way, however small. Participating in the experience.
3. Driving. Long drives for no real reason other than the drive, or to reach some destination simply for the sake of going there and not because I'm running an errand or going to work etc. Though I should note that such drives without the music are much less of a pleasurable thing. Oh, and along the same note: Speeding. ^_^; Yes. TJ has a *cough* slight case of leadfoot. What? Don't look at me like that.
4. Sunshine. A simple pleasure that I've only learned to appreciate after living in sub-Arctic regions for a few years.
5. The cry of seagulls. High and simple and somehow so very calming. It's the most promising harbinger of Spring in these parts. And I heard it this morning. ^_^
6. The ocean, in all its vast and boundless majesty. Specifically, the tranquil rhythmic lull of water lapping at the shore and the subtle melodies of rolling waves that ebb and flow around that rhythm.
7. Staying up into the wee hours of morning and then sleeping in.
8. Playing hooky for a day. Or leaving work early. Or hell, even just on time. -_-;
9. Smell. Scents. The sense of smell. That wet sand-and-seaweed saltwater tang of the beach and the creosote smell of the pilings under the docks. The dry sharpness of woodsmoke in winter. The cold dusty-sweet dry-dampness of autumn leaves. Holiday baking and various other favorite food-smells. The totally-Summer things like barbecue and watermelon and chlorinated pool water and sun-warmed skin-and-sunscreen. Rain-smell, especially that full-bodied sweet almost-taste of rain in the desert that I've been away from too long. The warm pervasive sweetness of citrus blossoms on the air in Spring. That's one that I really miss. Especially when it's weighed against the...ah, fragrant reminder of moose deposits thawing in the backyard that accompanies Spring 'round here.
10. Thunderstorms. Full-blown desert-soaking thunder and lightning and rain. Which, again, I really miss.
On fishly fronts:
*frets*
I think my lovely red is sick. There's fluffy white stuff on him, and on his tail fin. He's spent an awful lot of his first day laying at the bottom of the tank. He hasn't shown any interest in food, either. If it wasn't for the fluffy white stuff, I wouldn't be terribly worried. As it is, though...
*frets more* Petco is closed for the night, too. I'll have to go first thing tomorrow, find treatments for ick and fin rot. 'Cause I can't just write him off.
I've got a name all picked out for him, but I hesitate to actually attach it to him for fear I'll somehow thereby seal his doom. We'll see if I can't get him better, first.
*worries*

Date: 2006-04-15 11:37 am (UTC)Not that I can say much, I have become rather fond of my little puffers. But then they are so cute. ^_^ I've had betta's before, I don't mind them, but I perfer more active fish. And I can't have one in the tank since the Chin Po's (the collective name of my little group of five puffers) are nippy, they would eat it's tail and fins rather quickly.

Date: 2006-04-15 07:45 pm (UTC)But I am at the same time rather prematurely attached; I spent a good hour browsing through all the fish. Made Jeff go wait in the car so as not to be rushed, waited until I found one that kind of said 'Hello. My name is ___, and I would like to be TJ's fish.' Y'know?
So. It's about noon, and the store should be opening soon. Off to get meds.
If he does die, though, I am definitely going to take him back for testing/replacement per store policy.
I'm thinking that it's probably better, though, to wait until a new shipment arrives and pick one up that very first day, before they've sat so long that their water's gone foul and diseased. *sigh*

Date: 2006-04-15 10:20 pm (UTC)The warm pervasive sweetness of citrus blossoms on the air in Spring. I remember living in Arizona, driving through one subdivision heavy with orange trees... I, quite literally, entertained the notion that someone was having a wedding reception and they'd driven a perfume truck through the neighborhood, spraying that floral scent like a sandtruck spews grains.
I ended up calling the homeowners association and asking (without, I might add, any trace of embarassment because I"m like that) what the source of the smell was. Not being able to believe that something that sweet and that strong could be a natural phenomenon.
I suddenly concieved an intense desire for orange trees. ::grin::
