Personal Log: TJ Dragonblade

Okay. So. Last May, I started work on a plot bunny that had been percolating for many many months beforehand. It was basically my 'How could I get Goujun and Kenren in bed together?' bunny. I didn't manage to write very much of it, and by now...I just can't. My perception of Goujun has evolved a whole awful lot since this bunny was born. The way he 'feels' in my head now does not mesh with where this was going. Thus, I've admitted to myself at long last that this fic will never be written beyond what's been jotted down.

Granted, I did drabble with the idea, here (which continued in a different direction than the fic, here) well before I officially started ficcing the bunny. But...like I said. By now, I just can't see it.

And thus, I retire the bunny. Which is under the cut in all it's truncated, unfinished...er, glory. For the curious. Or the bored. I mean, if anyone wants to adopt it? Feel free. I am done with it.

Now...I did get nibbled by a different sort of GouKen bunny recently, in keeping with evolved character perceptions. There's no telling if or when it'll ever get written, but. It is there.

As this was my first real Saiyuki fic, I've never been quite satisfied that it had come out 'right'. Having moved into my second year in the fandom, I felt that I'd gotten a better handle on writing these guys and so began quite a bit of revision on this. Having now entered my third year, I'm thinking perhaps it's time to wrap up the tweaking and call it good enough. ^_^

In addition to grammatical tweaks like removing excess ellipses and emphasis marks and trading those left for italics and trimming off extraneous narrative fat and breaking down some of those paragraph-length run-ons I seem so fond of, there have also been adjustments made for characterization, as follows:
- Extensive attempts made to polish Gojyo's voice more toward Hirata than Guardiola though I'm afraid he still sounds like some blend halfway between the two
- Extensive dialogue and thought revisions in an effort to capture Ishida-Hakkai rather than Hunt-Hakkai
- Hakuryuu moved from a cushion in the corner of the room to Hakkai's bed
- Hakuryuu given spoken lines instead of simply being narrated through both of his scenes.
- Minor tweakings that attempt to address my initial blithe disregard for Hakkai's over-developed sense of modesty
- Minor tweakings that attempt to mop up most of the excess sap

Still far from perfect, and still flawed. 'Course, I was never aiming for perfect and I don't feel it's worth it to completely re-write the thing to address its flaws. Just wanted to do a bit of clean-up and practice little things like characterization and objective punctuation.

To be fair, this drabble owes its title less to the 3 Doors Down song and more to the pop culture reference, never mind that the bunny was born while I had the song on repeat. In the event that anyone is not familiar with kryptonite, it's the one thing that can cripple Superman, and it's usually seen in the form of brilliantly green gem-like stones.

(headdesks) Work keeps me so busy. No time to write, no time to reply...my social life will suffer for this promotion. I'm just going to have to find a way to balance everything with the new priorities. That's all. As I oughtn't to be indulging my social life on the job as it is, ne? ^_^;

>_< Two days for a *drabble*--sometimes, my muses are simply pathetic. Or perhaps it's the fact that I can't sit them down for any length of time straight to hash it out...(shrugs)

I need to do some revisions to 'Awakening'. I've got somewhat of a better handle on Hakkai's voice by now; and when I skimmed through it a couple days ago, I found it sounding very noticeably like dub-Hakkai, right down to hearing the flat, stilted, out-of-step vocal delivery in my head. And good god, there are extraneous emphasis marks all over the place. And a blatant disregard for Hakkai's well-developed sense of modesty...though I may not change that. ^_^; I *like* having him shirtless, and...I can chalk it up to his highly-pre-occupied mental state, yes? ^_^;; No? ...Maybe? (sweatdrop) It does serve as a sort of visual metaphor for his vulnerability during the scene, after all...

And...damn, but Gojyo really needs a bit of tweaking, too. Though I'm less confident in my current Gojyo-voice skills than Hakkai...I'm more comfortable with Kenren, it seems. Probably because he's got that slightly-more-refined edge that somehow seems to come naturally when I sit down to write...

Whoops...rambling. ^_^;

So...yes. The fic's getting a little bit of a makeover. ^_^;

And then I really need to find the time to tweak it into ff.net's annoyingly quirky formatting and upload it to my long-empty account...

...I can't help laughing. While all the usual suspects were fighting over the muses, *Goku*--of all people--snuck in under the radar and kidnapped them. And he brought Sanzo along for the ride...
