But Nii =/= Gollum, just doesn't work because of the personalities, and intellectual differences between them. I cannot see talk like that either due the vocabulary of words he uses as a scientist.

The only thing that even remotely resembles a similarity between them is a tendency toward obsession. But Nii is much *much* more composed and self-aware regarding his obsessions. He will use and explore them, whereas Gollum is simply a slave to his.

Poor Kou, indeed. But it really drives home just how much inner strength he really does have, to go through everything that's heaped upon him and still be able to hold himself up, to fight back, to not simply surrender or admit defeat. (snuggles Kou) Such a proud, noble man...there are so many things to love him for...

Oh definately ^^ I adore Kou (mostly your fault you realise!!!). I really feel bad for him a lot of the time. he has so much angst.

I'll admit, my first attraction to Kou was simply the looks. The red hair, the pretty face, the claws, the pointed ears, the sharp teeth...and the fact that that little open jacket with the sleeves pushed to the elbows made him look like he belonged in Def Leppard. ^^; But then, here comes all this *character* behind the design that just bowled me over. And all that *angst*! That's what's so funny about it, really--I am seriously *not* an angst junkie. But for Kou...it works. It really really works, and he's a wonderfully deep character to work with. Once a body starts getting into his head, it's like...like it opens up this huge canvas to work with, so huge that it's amazingly difficult to find the way back *out* again. ^_^; And it doesn't help anything that I completely *get* a lot of his driving factors, that there's so much about him and his motivations and his circumstances that I can empathize with.

And then of course there's the fact that his whole relationship with Nii is just so *twisted*...I really can't just go and make pretty smut out of it. It demands plot, thought, psychology and whole bunches of other stuff that really challenges me to stretch beyond the comfortable bounds of the PWP. Y'know? Which is just fun. In a hair-pulling cussing-in-frustration-when-it-won't-quite-come-together kind of way. ^_^ Just all the more satisfying when it finally *does* all click into place.

Ahhh, but I *do* blame you! In part, at least; and most definitely for feeding the Nii/Kou fascination. (shakes head) I think, it may be safe to say, that my favorite pairing coming into Saiyuki has been replaced, if only by the narrowest of margins...

Gojyo x Hakkai was my favourite too... And well, here is your answer that Nii/Kou engulfed them up. I find them as in the most not boring pairing in the fandom (no offense, I cannot grasp onto some pairings for some reasons even though they are still interesting). There is just so much about them that one can be relate to on personal level, as you have state before.

Erm...^_^;; I'm not entirely sure; and I'm not entirely sure how to find out, either. What programs might playing such files require?

Well, i asked my friend and she said that WinAmp is a good programme, although there are others you can use. But, you need the DivX and XviD decoders to actually be able to see them, otherwise you just get sound.

I'll probably try and send you the disc anyway, otherwise I might try and copy my VCD discs for you.
