...Random Speculative Oddity...

There is a theory out there, a theory that fascinates me despite the fact that I hesitate to buy into it, to say, 'Yes, I'll bet that's what Minekura's got planned!' in regards to it.
The theory is this: When Tenpou was cast down and subjected to reincarnation along with the rest of them, his soul was split. That means that Hakkai is only half the current incarnation. Sort of a dark-side/light-side separation.
The other half, then, is of course dear Nii-hakase.
There is a ficlet called 'Anti-matter' out there that touches on this idea, that actually made me aware of the theory in the first place beyond my own observations that Nii and Hakkai blended would be an awful lot like Tenpou. It's by...um...NightfallRising...? I think. I think the author's name was something like that, and I ran across the fic on ff.net. And then I've once or twice seen Nii referred to somewhere as 'The wrong Tencarnation'...
I can totally see where the theory comes about. At the same time, I don't know that it's quite accurate because Hakkai has an awful lot of dark in him along with the light. And if he has so much of both sides, by virtue of this theory wouldn't one then expect to find a sizeable pocket of 'light' hiding under Nii's dark exterior? An appealing concept, to be sure; but...seriously. *If* it's there, Nii has suppressed it so thoroughly that one could turn him inside out and still not find it.
Like I said. I don't know if I 'believe' the theory, if I expect Minekura to reveal somewhere down the road that Tenpou's soul was split. But it's fun speculation.
And one extra little piece of frivolous evidence? The numerical shorthand. (strikes Hakkai's Teaching Pose, with the one finger lifted) Observe:
Hakkai is represented by the number 8.
Nii, by at least the same logic that designates Goku as 9, is represented by the number 2.
What do we get when we combine 8 and 2?
10, that's what we get.
And Tenpou, indeed, is represented by the number 10.
(raises an eyebrow) Interesting, indeed...(nods sagely)

Date: 2005-01-08 07:46 am (UTC)Except for his growing fascination with Kougaiji...
Nii does things as a planned work of a goal, Hakkai(Tenpou) strikes me as a crimes of passion type. His killing spree was very much a crime of passion. Even as Kenyuu, Nii's killing had some amount of planning to it. He wanted something--therefore he'd do anything to get it. Similar but marked differences. The big ones that make Nii chilling, yet fascinating, and Hakkai cold, yet still warm enough to want to hug.
And the name game with him? Hiding in plain sight is my theory. *grins* Playing with words, which is his skill and love really. Partly in an evil joke, because all those that would know that Nii Jyeni is just another way of saying Kenyuu, AND his profession. And those that knew Kenyuu--are dead.

Date: 2005-01-08 08:16 am (UTC)Kenyuu to Jian y, with the kanji standing for the name itself--and a phonetic character tossed in. I was...going. OMG. Why am i NOT suprised at all. *laughs* It's something he'd do, just to be the bastard he is. Check my memories, under 'niixkouproject'. Tis there with the kanji included.

Date: 2005-01-09 09:13 am (UTC)^_^ Thanks for pointing me over that way. Utterly fascinating. It's one of several things I'm coming across lately that make me realize how terribly intricate is the detail that Minekura's put into her work, here. I mean...it can't *all* be coincidence, can it...
That reminds me...there's a color analysis thingy...here.
