tj_dragonbladeSo, I picked up the first Saiyuki DVD the other day and have managed to watch the all 5 episodes dubbed so far. And I gotta say, I frickin' love it. It's so damn funny! My husband even laughed a few times. The music is ear-catching, too, though the opening riffs of the theme song sound like they were lifted straight out of Aerosmith's 'Eat the Rich' and tweaked just a little. And, oddly enough somehow, these four characters--their unapologetic crass vulgarity is just utterly refreshing... ^_^
Lessee...Sanzo. I don't know quite what to make of him, still, but I think I rather like him. His attitude and his whole contradictory nature are rather amusing. Though I *do* wish he'd ditch the robes--that tight little black number he's got underneath makes my mouth water...
Goku...such a cute little thing! And feisty, too. Very lovable little fellow. The bickering between him & Gojyo is unfailingly entertaining... He looks good in borrowed clothes, too. And do they ever go into detail about what he did to get himself locked up for 500 years? I'm really not too familiar with the legend of the Monkey King; is it all tied up in that?
Gojyo...(grins) Ah, what to say? He's devilishly charming, somehow, despite the blatant libido; and I love the way he interacts with the others. His weapon is quite impressive, too; but...what's up with those *pants*? It's Duo all over again... His dub-voice is...intriguing. Almost sounds like he's got a suppressed Valley-girl accent trying to surface...^_^ Though that obnoxiously pink hair could stand to be reddened up a bit...it's not what I would describe as either 'crimson' or 'blood-red'...I'd call it more magenta than anything...but then, I've had more than one person denounce me as color-blind so maybe it's just me... And it sounds like he's got quite a load of half-breed angst behind him...it'd definitely be interesting to see more of that. But still...a water sprite who can't swim? Definitely weird. ^_^
Hakkai...(smiles brightly) It's too early to say who's going to turn out as the favorite character at this point, but it's definitely between Gojyo & Hakkai. Leaning slightly toward Hakkai. His personality is very appealing...somehow he has the funniest lines, probably because his look and his voice don't lead one to expect that from him. His dub-voice has that same soft, warm-hypnotic quality to it that Kirby Morrow gave Trowa--I love it. And I love the little half-a-pair of spectacles peeping from beneath his bangs...it gives him an oddly distinguished look, which is somehow set off quite nicely by the greens in his eyes & clothing. Extra points for the greens. ^_^ The pet dragon-slash-jeep...Hakkuru? I hafta go look up the spelling on that...is a nice touch, too. And he seems so absolutely unperturbable, and unflappable through most situations...though a couple of flashes and that conversation he was having with Sanzo in ep 5 seem to indicate there's dark issues/secrets in his past, as well...
Time allowing, I look forward to watching the subbed version just to catch the full scope of the story through both translations. And then comes the saving up and buying the next volume. Eager for the next volume of the manga, too...which is due out sometime in May, I believe. It should prove interesting to see what sorts of history unfold for these guys...I'm quite curious to know what's behind them all, what shapes them into who they are. Not to mention what else is bound to befall them on their journey west. More info on Kougaiji...again with the spelling, forgive me--would be nice, too. He's rather sexy. And seems less a genuine villain than an unwilling pawn of circumstance...
And if Hakkai was to somehow find himself in Gojyo's bed some night, or several nights therafter...well...I for one would be quite delighted, that I would...^_^ Although I can probably see some potential toward Sanzo-Hakkai, as well...

After watching Gensoumaden Saiyuki, you HAVE to watch Saiyuki Reload. Gojyo gets a total makeover. The artists FINALLY gets his hair colour right! (It's red, kinda burnished red, in Reload), and he wears pants, and a jacket! ^__^ He looks more like how a womaniser SHOULD look. LOL. Kougaiji looks great in Reload too! ^___^ He wears white, and I dunno, I never liked him before in Gensoumaden, but in Reload... *fans*
OOPS...did I give away any spoilers? ^^;; Just take it that you can't miss Reload! ^___^ Have fun watching Gensoumaden Saiyuki!
