Senshi-con was last weekend - it's a tiny little two-day con held every year or so at the local university here in town. AJ and I went for the first day. He's wanted to do cosplay since the first time we went a couple years ago, so a few weeks back we talked it over and he decided he wanted to do Black Star from Soul Eater. Most of my meager spare time the past month or so went into pulling it together for him, and it was totally worth it even if we didn't manage a wig and the blue hairspray was totally wrong and not the color it claimed on the can. I missed a good stripe of his hair up front, too, which makes me facepalm when I look at the pics, and the shoes could have been closer to canon if I'd had more time and his collar kept wilting (note to self: next time, interfacing!), but overall I'm very pleased with how it turned out. Especially the pants. ♥ People recognized the costume and he got asked for tons of pics, which kinda made him glow, so. I'll call it a success. ^_^

We didn't make any weapon for the costume, but there was a vendor who let him pose with a fake sword that looks more or less like a blend of Tsubaki's Ninja Sword and Enchanted Sword forms:

Those #$@%! gloves took me days, but I'm very pleased with how they turned out, so it was worth it.

Aaand, the obligatory Black-Star-Being-An-Idiot pic:

The pants and the gloves:

Husband helped out quite a lot by hammering in all those damned eyelets. He also painted the shoes.
There was a small Soul Eater group there as well, Medusa and Stein and Kid (they had a Crona with them too, whose pic didn't turn out at all):

And Eruka was working the con info booth:

There were the inevitible handful of Akatsuki running around, including a very polite Kakuzu-with-glasses:

We found Pein peddling snacks in the game room, which made me laugh:

Random ANBU - he was super nice, and had very enthusiastic words for AJ's costume, so I thought it only fair to take his pic tooand besides I've got this...thing, for ANBU in general, since falling for Yamato:

There were two or three Ciel-and-Sebastian pairs from Kuroshitsuji, also; got a pic of the best one:

All in all, it was small and low-key but fun just the same. ^_^

Date: 2011-10-02 08:19 am (UTC)Glad to see you're having so much fun! I'm running around a bit trying to get my lack of job to be having a job, or failing that, a little bit of help with food costs or something. But for fun? I'm now in a fansub group! It's my live action stuff, but still. *runs around* Wheee!

Date: 2011-10-04 06:25 am (UTC)I do a lot of timing, but i've got a side project i'm going to be starting up soon. Thankfully they can be done at my leisure. Which is the advantage of taking up shows that no one else is doing, and are out on DVD for someone else to rip for us.
Otherwise, a great way to keep me busy while i wait for teh phone to ring.
