A quick belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! to sadieko and a very slightly-early HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! to kispexi2! Hopefully each of your days went/will go well! ^_^;
Totally unrelated, I've been meaning to ask if you're at all familiar with Nathan Fillion's current show Castle? If not, there's a couple clips I have to show you for Firefly's sake. ^_^
*grin* Well, the first is the opening segment (2.5 min) of the Halloween episode they did second season. I don't know who's responsible - though I'm fairly sure Nathan had a large hand in it - but I love them for it. The first little bit is the best thing I've seen on mainstream tv like, ever, but the whole thing's worth watching - he drops a crack about Buffy a little later and then goes all geeky with Underworld references at the end. I love the geekiness, even if no one else on the team appreciates it. ^_^
Then there's a couple very short clips from other episodes that are clear homages to Firefly, though not so blatant as the Halloween ep - they're subtle and easy to miss. Again, I have to wonder who's responsible (especially on the second, since it's an actual line), but the first one at least looks very much like Nathan sneaking it in under the radar. ♥
I'm really tickled to find these things in there, y'know? It feels like a small measure of respect toward the Firefly fanbase, a little nod of acknowledgement. Makes me want to scrutinize every ep that I watch, see if there's anything else being snuck in. Maybe it's just a shrewd ploy on the part of creators/producers to increase their viewership. *g*
I enjoy the show, certainly, but I wouldn't feel any particular attachment to it if it wasn't Nathan - it'd just be another crime drama-slash-comedy with undertones of UST, and TV's already peppered with plenty of those. But I am definitely glad to see him land a show that's a ratings hit and slated for at least a third season. He deserves it, even though I'd still rather Firefly had been let to run longer.
Still. Little things like this make me very happy. ^_^
Seeing Mal again, if only for a couple seconds before he reverted to Castle, was awesome. Especially completely out-of-the-blue and unexpected as it was. ♥ And then the conversation with his daughter (who almost looks like she could be related to Saffron, lol) - 'There are no cows in space' except that I distinctly remember a herd of cattle and a lot of cow pies in Serenity's hold, and then 'Didn't you wear that like, five years ago?' / 'So?' / 'Sooo...don't you think you should move on?' / '...I like it.' ^_^
