tj_dragonblade**A quick note - most of the fics linked under the cut and a few of the descriptions I've written make reference to Gaara's 'career' in Shippuden (is that still considered a spoiler?) and/or pertinent details of the Gaara retrieval arc. If you don't have the gist of that arc and don't want spoilers, you might want to steer clear of this section until you're caught up.**

maldoror_gw's stuff is likely some of the most well-known and well-read in this corner of the fandom. She writes very well and has an excellent grasp of character. Her LeeGaa stuff is set once they've hit 18-19 and most of it was written before the whole Gaara Retrieval arc was resolved, so things in her world turned out differently than they did in canon. Consider these slightly AU for that.
Diplomatic Relations
== 29 Chapters including side-stories/complete. Adult Content - NSFW overall.
Lee is assigned as Konoha's official military liaison to Suna. This is the epic that has made a believer out of many a skeptic and opened many more eyes to the idea that yes, actually, Lee and Gaara can in fact make a very good couple. It's a thoughtfully well done development-of-relationship story that runs the gamut from funny to sweet to serious to sexy and back again. It takes into account all sorts of issues and aspects of character for both Lee and Gaara and makes a Really Good Fic out of it. Also, the side chapters from other characters' viewpoints, particularly Kankurou's, are priceless. I had very little sense of who Kankurou and Temari were as people before this and ended up utterly in love with them by the end of it.
Kindred
== 14 Chapters including side-stories/complete. Adult Content - NSFW overall.
The sequel to DR; somewhat shorter and a little bit darker. Still quite good and terribly funny in places despite itself. Lee and Gaara end up taking in young relatives of Lee's who've just been traumatically orphaned, more or less. This is absolutely not the cliche light-fluffy 'Ahaha let's watch our favorite boys raise children and have Mishaps in Parenting!' sort of fic. If kids make you wary, I'd strongly advocate for giving this one a chance regardless.
Missing
== One-shot. Gruesome in places but worksafe overall.
A good-sized stand-alone one-shot posted in two parts. Darkish and incredibly moving, it's Gaara and his off-kilter inner landscape on a journey to find the truth when Lee is reported killed in action.
Big Heart, Drunken Fist
== One-shot. Mostly worksafe.
Average-length stand-alone one-shot. Sunagakure gets a first-hand demo of Why Lee Should Never Drink Alcohol. ^_^ Co-starring Naruto.
Chicken Soup for the Demonic Soul
== One-shot. Worksafe.
Stand-alone one-shot that can be read in the same continuity as Drunken Fist. The flu carries all sorts of complications for the bearer of Shukaku; lucky for all of Suna, Gaara has Lee.
I also recommend The Wheel, a two-part Gaara gen-fic set during the timeskip that explores events which might have helped him reach the decision to become Kazekage. lnvolves the supernatural and ends up rather moving.

The cast of Naruto takes on Disney. This fic, being pure crack, is not for everyone, I'm sure. But I would urge anyone reading this list to at least give it a try and see if it doesn't hook you regardless. Having been hugely into 'The Little Mermaid' as a kid when it came out (and seeing it a million times on video in my babysitting gigs), I couldn't pass up this sort of fusion and was pleasantly surprised to find that actually? It's pretty damned entertaining. Crackfic, oh yes, but well managed. Even the narrator-as-participant-in-the-story angle. If you're still with me, I highly recommend you go read it. I'm really hoping that the last chapter will get written sooner or later. Because this really is good for a smile and a laugh.
