Sooo, hubby's laptop drama has culminated in an hour or three spent on the phone with tech-support repeating all the fixes I'd tried myself the night before, only to be told that the only thing left to do is restore the damned thing to factory settings. The CS lady was kind enough to mention an option for retrieving the existing data on his hard drive beforehand, though. So we searched around town and tracked down a USB-IDE/SATA cable adapter (pardon my technobabble), plugged his drive into my USB port, and salvaged all the family pics and the vid of AJ's school xmas play performance (that alone worth the painful price of the adapter) and hubby's iTunes library to an external hard drive. Then went ahead and set the laptop back to factory, and I've spent the time since getting his iTunes back up and running, re-installing the spyware program, resetting his gadgets and homepage and defaults and such.

What's fucked up, though, is that--as I think I might have mentioned in the last bitch-session--his brother had this exact same problem, with a brand new laptop, every time he tried to hook up anything to his comp. Dell had to send him a new hard drive. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this occurence will be the single and only occurence for hubby's laptop, but I'm not holding my breath.

Hell, I don't even know enough to tell if it's a harddrive issue or a Vista issue, but of course I'm inclined to think the latter. Especially after all the harddrive diagnostics the tech-support lady had me run as a last resort all indicate the hardware's in order and performing as it should.

We shall see.

Elsewise, the snow finally stopped and the sun came back out today. Streets are clear enough, but there's still a couple more days' worth of snowmelt to happen before we're back to where the weather was last week. *glares at mother nature* This had damn well better be it, thankyouverymuch.

...Randomly, there is a sizeable cow moose wandering up to the front door as I look outside. It's still a little disconcerting, however many years I've been here by now. O_o

Get a hunting license love, with food prices soaring, daily visits from moose will be welcome.

I myself am planning to grow a garden in my back yard to help with food this summer. I think I am going to start composting too, just so I don't have to pay for fertlizer.

Y'know, we've tried gardening the past couple years without much success. I'm not sure how much is climate and how much is lack of know-how. ^_^;

I don't exactly think hunting moose in the front yard would be looked kindly upon by the Powers That Be, but you conjure an amusing image nonetheless. Also it reminds me of crack-fic conversations from a few years back about a certain pilot visiting a couple other certain pilots in the arctic and whether or not moose-meat had finally sent one of them 'round the bend...

Yeah, I'm hoping this isn't going to become a regular thing with his laptop. *keeps fingers crossed* Because it'll get old real quick if so.

Man, I don't know how many times I've gone through that process. Meh.
