They insist that this is Not An Argument, though it certainly sounds like one to me. Regardless, it must be purged in the name of moving forward with finishing off the fic revisions. Thus.

Not An Argument. Picked up halfway through.

"But Sir--"

"Enough, Marshal. 'Thrust' is a perfectly reasonable word to be used, under the circumstances. I fail to see why you object to it so."

"Ahh, well, it's just that, to me, it feels far too common and plain a word. It's woefully inadequate, unfittingly crass, misleadingly mild--"

"--simple and unpretentious, cleanly functional and properly evocative--"

"But it's not, Sir. It does not evoke the proper sense of motion--"

"I find it rather presumptuous of you to assume that you know the movement of my body better than I."

"With respect, Sir, I would say that I know it differently. I am on the receiving end of it, after all, and I maintain that 'thrust' does not do you justice. It denotes a sharp motion, a jerking motion, swiftly in and, I suppose, back out by implication, which is not at all how it feels when I'm underneath you. You do not 'thrust'. You...there is no single adequate word to describe it! You move with grace and skill, confidence and surety; it is not a matter of the simple in-out or back-and-forth that it often is with Kenren, pleasant though that may be in its own right. You are far more complex in your motion; you are fluid and continuous and relentless. You roll like the waves as they lap up the shore, you ebb and flow like the tides and I cannot in good conscience let that magnificence be described as a 'thrust'!"

"..."

"...Sir?"

"...I daresay you have spent far too much time with your head buried in books of mediocre poetry, Marshal."

"Ahh. It was not my intent to offend, Sir, rather to compliment--"

"I did not say I was not flattered."

"...Ahh."

"...Be that as it may. How do you propose to whittle your speech into brief, concise terms that will mesh with the narrative and not interrupt its flow?"

"...Ah. Well."

"Assuming that you could, even, how then would you arrange to convey that sentiment repeatedly while keeping each new evolution different enough to escape the feeling of repetition?"

"...I don't know that I could, Sir. As I said, the root of the problem is that there are no simple, concise words adequate to the task."

"Perhaps, then, for the sake of continuance, you will agree that 'thrust' is not so unsavory a word that you cannot resign yourself to its use herein."

"...As you say, Sir. I would, however, like to request that it be used as little as possible? Preferably no more than once?"

"I can make no promises. I will, however, do all in my power to keep its use to a minimum."

"Thank you."

They insisted I transcribe the 'discussion'. I listened. Happily enough, that snag in the revisions has ironed itself out. ^_^ *is a happy TJ*

The word 'thrust' has to be used at least once a paragraph - I'm sure it is in the rules somewhere. I would be very grateful if you could get them to discuss the use of the word 'hard' which is my particular stumbling block in certain scenes... when the brain starts melting at the mental images, the words tend to get shorter and more repetitive.
