*does the dance of See!-See-my-new-icon!-See!* Thank you, Steph!

And if anyone hasn't seen that movie yet, I strongly urge you to take a gander at your earliest convenience. It's such a wonderful bit of whimsy, it is.

Have spent the day indulging in being sick. Have caught up on five volumes' worth of YnM, bringing me current through the end of #9. Which means I now have about...*counts*...ten volumes of Kenshin to catch up on, three of which are still waiting to be bought. And I have to find that other series by Sanami Matoh, too, that I've had my eye on for awhile. If only I could remember its name. Something to do with the moon, or the full moon, or under the full moon...

Also. Seeing as how that whole Suncoast fiasco led to me buying the first DVD of Gankutsuou, I also got in the first two eps of that. And oh, my eyes!! Oh, my god, the visual style is such a huge turn-off. Trying very very hard to see past it, though, because I've heard so many good things about the series and even with just two eps, the threads of character dynamics are spinning in very clear and potentially angsty directions and the story feels chock-full of Potential and I really am interested in where it's going to go. Just wish it didn't look so painful to get there. *shakes head* It's like...like Anime by Impressionists on Crack, or something. Do I need to be on drugs to fully appreciate this? Gah. Cut-out silhouettes that move over the static and hyper-busy patterns behind them - it's horribly distracting, and almost headache-inducing. Although I can see a...a symbolic statement in it, y'know, about facades and exteriors and the shapes that we show people on the outside not matching what's on the inside and all, but...gahd, it annoys. And really over-emphasizes how very plain and flat and slap-dash the non-cgi bits (the faces, particularly) are. I'm not at all impressed with the look of it. But I'm definitely willing to deal with it in the interest of the story.
