Okay. Spent a few hours this morning--ugh. No. I'm not getting into it. My father-in-law is one of my very least favorite people, and it's really not worth my time now to bitch about the state of his room and why we're cleaning it or the way he treats his family or anything else. I capitally Do Not Like the man; I'll leave it at that.

Fish tanks cleaned today too! I spent a few dollars to completely re-furnish Goujun's apartment at the same time, and omg it looks so much better! No more fugly gravel. No more tasteless plant. Now it's all classy black and white just like him, and eee but I'm so very happy with it! There will be pictures, yes, after the new-water bubbles have cleared. ^_^

Also, the guppies that Jeff had have, sadly, died. T_T He says he's just going to stick to the goldfish, him and AJ. Soo, he has very kindly offered me his 2.5 gallon tank, which he's dividing in half with a piece of plexiglass, for future bettas. Which I think is a very sweet gesture. I spotted a very unique individual the other day - his body was a silvery grey-blue color, and his fins were yellow. Never seen one quite like that. He looked very unhealthy, though, and was gone today. Hopefully to a home that will nurse him back to health. *crosses fingers*

Hit the bookstore today for the first time in a month or two as well, to find that they've totally re-arranged the place yet again. So I found the manga again, and picked up Yellow v3, and browsed a few other titles for future reference. Antique Bakery - it's one I've seen mentioned many times across the flist. Could anyone tell me a little more about it, perhaps? Particularly whether or not it's worth the higher price?

Absolutely worth it.

Basically, its about a bunch of guys who run a Bakery, the trials involved therein, and the customers they encounter. Tachibana is the owner, Ono is the (very gay) pastry chef who you will love, Eiji is Ono's apprentice, and Chikage (who doesn't appear until vol. 2) is Tachibana's...klutz.

The series starts of a bit slow for my taste, but then you get to the story of how Tachibana hires Ono as his pastry chef (vol 1), and the best line ever to be said gets said.

And then its just hilarious from that point on.

Definately worth it in my opinion. :)

I think I'll have to pick it up, then, sooner or later. It sounds just about my speed. Thanks!

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] tad_coast, Antique Bakery is great... it's not chock full of gay smex like Yellow, but it's really well-written/drawn and it has a very dry wit undercutting what starts out as a simple plot. I know it won the Kodansha award or something like that, and they made a J-dorama out of it with one of my favourite singers playing Eiji the boxer :D You should def. check it out

*snickers* Ehhm. Nice icon, yes. ^_^

Thanks for the info - dry wit is a very very good thing, and chock-full of gay smex isn't a requirement in my book. So. I'm going to have to look into it. ^_^

Hurray for new fish habitat! Bettas are so fun to decorate for, aren't they? And I look forward to the pictures once you've found the two new ones who will undoubtedly soon be populating the larger tank. XD

Also, I will agree with what everyone is saying about Antique Bakery and further mention one of the things that makes it a unique series: cakeporn! Which is to say: cakes and desserts described in such loving and graphic detail that you'll find yourself salivating and desperately in need of something luciously sweet. Antique Bakery never failst to send me into the kitchen to whip up gateaux, mousses or some other confection and as an epicure, that is an effect I can appreciate. XD

Hee. Yes. ^_^ Husband doesn't quite get it ("...I thought the gravel looked fine..."), but yes.

And cakeporn! That's whole other levels of tempting, there; I'll definitely be looking into the series at some point in the future here. Thanks for the input. ^_^

I've only read Vol. 1 of Antique Bakery and thought it was hilarious. I'll probably buy the other volumes based on the positive comments above. BTW, the mangaka also did an Antique Bakery doujinshi which was posted in yaoi_daily awhile back that was one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. I should see if I can track it down again.. She's got a wicked sense of humor.

Plus it helps to have a bit of a food fetish :D

Humor and food-fetish are very good. Especially in combination with one another. Thanks for the input - I think I'm going to be picking it up at some point in the future. ^_^
