Why I like them: He's a dragon. *_* That has a lot to do with it. His otherness, his being an outsider among the kami, his differentness-of-culture and such. His even keel, his honor, his reserve, his strong-and-unflappable civilized surface over a core that's a lot more fiery than would really meet with favor in Tenkai. His sort of understated struggle between being Dragon but living Kami - it's hard to articulate in a way that really gets at it. ^_^;; And of course, on the shallow end, his reptilian nature and exotic appearance don't hurt my opinion of him in the least.
Why I don’t: Or rather, one thing I think he could stand to improve: He had too much faith in The System to be functioning as it should, and failed to see how things really stood until too late. A little too blindly bound to The Rules, to the letter rather than the spirit - that kind of thing.
Favorite episode/scene: ...The illustration of him naked in the water with falling sakura petals included in Vol 3 doesn't really count as a 'scene', does it. *cough* Uh, probably Kenren's death scene, when I think he's finally realized the true character of the man. That salute speaks volumes.
Favorite line: Hrm. Been a long time since I thoroughly read through Gaiden. There's nothing that's standing out in memory as particularly striking; I'd probably have to revisit to come up with a decent answer.
Favorite outfit: He's only really got the one. Is it wrong to say I'd like to see him out of it more often?
OTP: GouTen. ♥ I think they mesh well, regardless of their minimal non-hostage-y canon interaction. Possibly it's got more to do with the bond observed between Hakuryuu and Hakkai, also.
Non-romantic OTP: *headscratch* Hrm. We really only get to see him interact with Kenren and Tenpou, and a little moment of conversation with Konzen. I don't know that I have an answer here. I do kind of see more potential for Kenren to be a highly-valued brother-in-arms than a lover, if that counts. He'd also make a great foil for Kanzeon and Jiroushin in fic.
Headcanon: Hah. Uhm. Long-term intimate relationship with Tenpou, check. Occasionally drinking Tenpou's blood to get around the dietary restrictions of Tenkai, check. Adamantly topping in bed except for one (so far) very very rare and Meaningful Occasion with Tenpou, check. Unsure if Tenpou is the reincarnation of his boyhood tutor to whom he was extremely close, check. That's a chunk of backstory that still bears writing, if ever I get to it.
Unpopular opinion: ...I-I don't actually think he pairs with Kenren all that well. *hides* It can work sometimes with Tenpou in the mix, but just the two of them? I can't see it anymore.
A wish for them: On one hand, I wish he could have died a better death. I understand story-wise why it worked out the way it did, but I still feel like, compared to the other three, he got...cheated, somehow.
An oh-god-please-don’t-ever-happen for them: I would not want to see him reincarnated into a life where he never found the others, particularly Tenpou.
5 words to best describe them: Honorable. Regal. Beautiful. Isolated. Proud.
My nickname for them: Honestly, I don't have one. He...isn't exactly the 'nickname' sort. ^_^;
