God, now you got *me* thinking about "PizzaBoyGoujun." I keep seeing this door opening up, and there he is in an ill-fitting pizza delivery outfit and an extra-large hot box in his hand, looking Not At All Amused. ^__^
But wouldn't that be a great lj? Or maybe it should be an archive: "PizzaBoyGoujun: The Worst of Dragon Porn."
But yeah, you're absolutely right. Kenren has no incentive, and neither does Goujun, unless Tenpou is involved somehow. And I ain't saying that just 'cuz I wrote that scenario once already (why did it take me until now to realize this? I am such a dope sometimes). But exactly as you say, both of them would go out of their way to make him happy as long as what is required it isn't totally against their natures. Tenpou being Tenpou would want to manipulate the whole thing to make sure the outcome is what he wants, but he'd do it in such a way that it doesn't seem to them like it. It has to be their decision to make, at least in their minds. Then the twosome works.
But best of luck with the revision and rewrite!And remember; if you get frustrated and need a break... just order a pizza. You'll feel better in no time.;)
