Ahm. Moving past that, though. I appreciate your comments, and they're so much in line with my own thinking. When Kenren does something that appears to be Very Foolhardy, it's generally designed for the benefit of someone besides himself. As it stands now, there's nothing for him to gain by provoking Goujun except whatever sexual gratification he may hope to get out of it (and that's already doubtful, given how difficult it is for me to come up with any non-Tenpou reason that Goujun would allow it). And Goujun...just wouldn't. Not casually, and not without a Very Good Reason. He's terribly professional and quite proper, after all.
But. Like you said. The Tenpou-factor changes the whole dynamic. And I'm pretty set in the idea that Tenpou wants the two of them to at least get along, preferably respect one another, and ideally see each other the same way he does. I think it's relatively safe to say that Kenren, whether he's keen on it or not, will ultimately do anything (within reason, of course) that Tenpou asks of him. Not that Tenpou's going to say "I think you should go have sex with Goujun", mind you. There's a lot more subtlety and a lot less directness involved. And Goujun has great regard for Tenpou, values and trusts his opinions/perceptions on an instinctual level (i.e., whether he wants to admit it or not, if Tenpou finds value in Kenren, it's probably there); he's also, I tend to think, somewhat vulnerable to Tenpou's remarkable ability to manipulate and influence things in his own favor without seeming to do anything of the sort.
If they're both approaching whatever scenario with the idea of 'I do this for Tenpou', then, I'm feeling quite a lot more compatability.
...I think I find a certain enthusiasm for this fic-thing returning, in that light. Which, clearly, means that I ought to follow where they want to lead, and abandon the half-hearted attempt to fit them into scenarios where they don't. It will work so much better.
See, now, you got me mulling it over proper-like and talking myself into a decision. Thanks for that. ^_^
Oh, there is reworking to be done, much rearrangment and revision...if I can just hold onto that enthusiasm long enough to do something with it...
