Okies. The husband was watching TV tonight, and flipping channels as incessantly as usual. Queen of the Damned apparently was showing, and he stopped on it a time or few. I caught a couple of those times, and...I just cannot express how *bad* the movie is. I've seen the whole thing, just to see it; and...okay, maybe I'm too much of a Rice purist but dammit, they coulda done so much better! Nevermind the fact they're trying to cram two incredible books into one 90-minute movie; they cut a lot of the most crucial backstory out of it. The viewer has no real sense of who Maharet is, and Mekare is completely absent. They got Marius *completely* wrong (he's acting more like Lestat than Lestat is, for chrissakes), and...it's just bad. *Bad*. So bad it hurts. Because we've already seen how *well* Anne Rice can be adapted for the screen. Interview With the Vampire was a stunning film, a beautiful complement to the novel. My only complaint with *that* one, really, was that visually Armand was wrong. Antonio Banderas makes one dead sexy vamp, to be sure; but he can't pass for 17 and they didn't give him an auburn wig. But that probably only bugs me so much because Armand has long been my favorite and I adore redheads regardless. Back to the point. I think the reason it turned out so well was because Anne Rice wrote the screenplay for it. So you've got the same vision taking it from one medium to the next. But with Queen...it's cheesy, disjointed, shallow...ah, god, it's just a train wreck. And it could have been so much better...

They shouldn'ta killed Pandora.

And they may have at least gotten Armand's haircolor closer to correct but...eew. I'll still take the Banderas model anyday, black-haired or no...

I must go read more Kenshin-Sano fics to put me in a better mood...

...Y'know, most of the GW stereotypes are rooted in the first ten-to-fifteen episodes, come to think of it. Obsessive stalker Relena...really, did she keep on about Heero after Antarctica? Wufei carrying on about women and weakness...seriously, almost all of that was in episode 4 (and I have yet to hear him say 'Injustice!' though I haven't watched the series subbed...maybe it comes from the Japanese rather than the translation if it's actually included at all). Sally as a doctor...cheery fluffy Quatre head-over-heels for cold-and-silent Trowa...fascinated Duo chasing unresponsive Heero...holing up in boarding schools and/or Quatre's mansions...hell, even getting missions from the docs didn't last all that long. Funny how those first few impressions can shape a whole fandom...

My son is a 1x2 fan! (sobs)

Okay, so my 2-yr-old wants to play with my G-boy figures. He takes each of them and asks me their names, several times over until he gets it. He goes through and tells me what color shoes each of them are wearing, very proudly. ('Cat-ra have...*brown* shoes, Mommy!')Then he lines them all up, and starts knocking them down. So they all end up in this big dog-pile. Then, he picks up Duo and says, 'Get offa me, Wu-Fay!' And then Duo and Heero leave the dogpile together.

If it wasn't so damned *cute*, I'd be crying my eyes out that he's not following in my alt-pairing footsteps...

^_^

Oops, I take it back. He just had a little 5x1x2 action going on...(shakes head)(beams proudly)

Edit: And he just told Daddy that Wufei's name is Wolverine... -_-' Close enough
