Wednesday, 10/18/06, early morning at SFO
Dammit all. I couldn't find any accessible wi-fi hotspots at SFO, so I ended up composing instead.
I may have dozed for a couple hours of the flight. Never did go all the way to sleep - just can't get comfortable on a damn plane. Thank god my claustrophobic tendencies are very selective and do not select airplanes. ^_^;
It's funny, though - turbulence helps me drift off, I find, when plane-sleeping. I've never been a nervous flyer - I mean, I know intellectually that Bad Sh*t can happen, but...it just doesn't really cross my mind. Too much faith in technology, I suppose. But the turbulence - it has the same effect as riding in a car when I'm sleepy. That plus Ishida-san's voice is just lovely, and his singing plus turbulence plus tiredness helped me doze the first couple hours. After that, it just...eh. There's a restless-ness and discomfort in general with the narrow seats and ZERO leg-room and the person in front reclining her seat-back into my lap.
The stars and the sliver of moon and the night sky are quite lovely out the plane window, though. So clear, and almost touchable.
Anyway. Arrived at SFO a tiny bit early, and I swear every time I fly through here the runway approach looks like it's gonna land the frickin' plane smack in the middle of the water. Scared the pants off me the first time some years ago. But this is at least the third time through, so I was expecting it. ^_^
Got in, got my baggage (it comes off quick at 5 am, apparently) and hiked from T3 to T1, where Inyx-sama is to arrive. I'm sure there's a shuttle or something that runs one terminal to the next, but walking does me good. Even if the bags are fricking heavy. Even if it is way too god-damned early in the morning. ^_^;
Aaand, as it turns out, Inyx-sama will be arriving at the section of the terminal that's under construction. Yay.
Anyway. I'm drafting this at quarter-to-seven, and she's due in around ten.
Perhaps I'll wander a little trolling for wireless. Or not, y'know, with those heavy fricking bags and me not inclined to shell out $3.00 for a cart.
10/19/06 Thursday 10:15 or so
Geeks! Geeks everywhere! OMG this is fan-smegging-tabulous!
Uhm. Lessee. Backup.
Still no luck with a connection, obviously.
Uh...conversation is distracting. Is it true, we wonder, that not even Goku would eat airline food?
'Kay. Slept awhile in the airport yesterday morning while waiting. Met up with Inyx-sama and got to the hotel no problem. Uhh...got some pizza. Took a nap. Checked out the TV. Inyx-sama opened my eyes to the slash value of Mythbusters. I cannot believe I never saw it before. ^_^;
Then hit the hot tub last night to relax/unwind a bit more, where we met
arthenice and a few others who's names have since eluded me, and eventually (on a tour of rooms) a handful of others whose names also elude me. I am bad, with this memory, I am. My apologies. Various discussion of GW and Ouran HS Host Club ensued.
Back in our room, showers and Naruto discussion (specifically the un-tapped smut potential of cloning jutsu) ensued, and then bed.
Amazingly, I was awake voluntarily before 7 am and out and about. Provisions for the Friday night gathering were obtained from the local Albertsons, and then we trooped over to the Westin to meet up with the hot tub group for a trip in to Chinatown or Japantown. Or both. I'm not quite clear on that point. They were still having breakfast. With
zalia! Who is delightful. *does the dance of I've-finally-met-Zalia!!* And currently Inyx, Zalia,
nekofreak,
gardensgnome and I are hanging out waiting for the rest to show up so we can go.
Still need to do:
- Find Unni
- Find Joe and April
- Pick up Tav's Anthy
To do when I get home:
- Share Gaiden scans/trans with Zalia and Inyx
Yesterday's quote of the day:
"You couldn't infiltrate a biscuit. Go home."
(while discussing the feasibility of OZ Duo and what Trowa would think. Alas, I cannot remember who offered the quote. ^_^;)
10/19/06 Thursday 19:00
...I'm surrounded by squees. Literally. ^_^
Uhm. Lessee. I figure the whole reporting thing will be easier if all I have to do is type it up, so I'm trying to keep a log as I go.
The trip turned out to be to Japantown, and included myself, Inyx, Zalia, Gnome, Neko, and newcomers LN and Calli. It was fun. Much window-shopping, at least on my part; sushi and ramen for lunch. Adventures on the bus and on BART. I can now say I'm no longer a subway virgin! There...were numerous Quotes of the Day, but I just can't remember any, alas!
Upon returning to the hotels, we all ended up in the Westin upstairs in Neko and Gnome's room, where I also met Ponderosa. Who is adorably tiny! The three of them were planning a little Final Fantasy cosplay meeting; we helped with the costumes and now we're parked in the Westin lobby with Reno, Rufus and Tseng (Neko, Pond and Gnome respectively). Much picture-taking is happening. Not that I know who these characters are, but the costumes are very impressive.
I know Unni is here already, I think; I'm looking but I haven't spotted her yet. Chances are good we'll meet people in the reg. line tomorrow, though. Joe and April may not be here yet, but then again they could be so I'm keeping an eye out.
It's a wonderful feeling, though, to put faces and personalities with names I've seen around on the 'net for years. It's wonderful to be able to crack a geek joke and have everyone gets it. It's wonderful to have somewhere I manage to fit in, more or less, and with people I've just met. As well as those I've known online for much longer. ^_^
Tenpou cosplay tomorrow, I plan. And Saturday. Inyx is doing OZ Duo tomorrow and Kenren Saturday, EW Duo Sunday. Or perhaps Friday will be OZ Trowa, if she can get her Trowa wig together. It's being worked on right now. Duo-wig has been brushed out and re-braided.
I have much observing and absorbing to do.
I have now also been introduced to Windsor Blue and Elyndys.
10/19/06 Thursday 20:05
Yaay! I found Unni! Or, rather, Unni found me! ^_^ *does the dance of I've-met-Unni!*
Reports on actual con-days still forthcoming. TJ is un-focused and spent more time culling through photography sites and reminiscing the con than reporting it in the time today not spent re-connecting with my boys. This is one of many, many, many things she must work on improving.
