Bad: *cough*cough*hack*WHEEEEZE wheeze wheeze wheeze--* I can't breathe entirely well, and I'm consequently not feeling quite chipper.

Good: Thus, I am taking a sick day.

Bad: Thus, I am taking a sick day.

Good: Spike TV re-runs DS9 in the middle of the day??

Bad: Feh. "Meridian". Ah well. I do suppose it could have been much worse.

Good: My labcoat has just arrived in the mail. ^_^ *would dance, except that dancing requires breathing*

Ugly: The couch, unfortunately, is not at all accomodating to long-term holing-up upon it. Ugh, my back... *hobbles off*

Completely unrelated to any of that: Hee. Poor Beckett's-new-turtles, alas!

Being DS9 is worth being sick for.

I...do have to agree with you, there. I was hoping so hard for a Garak episode, too. But alas. No dice. T_T

Oh, yes. Also. *returns to molest the icon on general principle*

Yaaaay! Labcoat!

(you will have to watch some naruto humor dubs to get the reference...remind me to send links...etc)

It needs steaming, or ironing, or...something. I mean certainly Tenpou is quite rumpled and nowhere near the model of tidiness that Hakkai is, but...these wrinkles are unnaturally square-package shaped. But it got here! In plenty of time!

*pokes* Send me links.

*blinks* you're sick. dude that sucks. where's your playstation (or equivalent). you don't have to be able to breathe to kick a little ass. feel better soon. oh and that is probably my favorite namie amuro song. oh and loved your gw fic... next time add trowa into the mix (hint hint for when you feel better)

[identity profile] tj-dragonblade.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ahaha. Unfortunately, I have nothing that even remotely resembles skill with either the Playstation or the Xbox. Please believe me when I tell you that on most games, my five-year-old son soundly kicks my ass and hands it back to me on a platter. ^_^; I spent the day with my head in the manga collection instead.

I think that's the only Namie Amuro song that I've heard. But I do like it. Quite a lot.

Very glad that you did enjoy the fic. Alas, Trowa remains quite put out with me over the long-standing lack of progress on Carpe Diem, not that I blame him. It's entirely unfair of me to have left it so long without doing more to it than trying to mop up a bit of the excess sap. I'm just grateful that he consented to the use of his hair gel for this fic. T_T Someday I will give him his due. Ten chapters already written is too much to let fall by the wayside on account of a simple fandom migration. Really.

Don't forget the three hours' worth of TNG afterwards. :D

[identity profile] tj-dragonblade.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Ah...yes. They were still in 2nd season, alas. Those god-awful one-piece uniforms just... *cringes* And Worf's very un-Klingon lack of hair, the poor man. T_T

And how in hell did I ever have a soft spot for Wesley Crusher??

But still, though. Nostalgia value despite it all. ^_^

[identity profile] sychogrl.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You think Season 2 is bad. You missed Season 1.

The pilot episode... Holy God, that would have been cancelled halfway through the episode had it aired on today's TV. :\ At least it was given a chance to grow.

Hey, I still like Wesley. He was a good kid. Gene Roddenberry's Gary Stu, yes, but I think everyone was/is too hard on him. And I think some of that reflected on Wil Wheaton too, sadly.

[identity profile] tj-dragonblade.livejournal.com 2006-10-02 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
The pilot episode

Haaaah. Oh, yes, you're so very right. And yet I remember watching it when it premiered and going "...Wo~ow...". ^_^; Of course, I was ten, but...still.

Star Trek was lucky enough to have all the cult-classic history behind it that allowed for that time to grow and develop into its potential. There's a lot of shows today that could really benefit from that kind of legacy, if only they had it.

...OMG. I'd never thought of him in terms of Gary Stu, but...that's exactly what he is. That totally explains the huge annoyance factor. And the fact that as a ten-year-old, I thought he was just the coolest thing evar. Eheh. ^_^; Though he does do a lot of growing over the course of the four seasons before he went off to the academy.

I saw Wil Wheaton, on an I Love the Eighties segment, just bashing Wes Crusher to pieces; I couldn't help thinking that y'know, buddy, no one would even know who you are if not for Wesley so maybe you should look back on him a little more considerately.

[identity profile] sychogrl.livejournal.com 2006-10-02 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
I think Roddenberry pretty much admitted as much about Wes. But I still like the character at least little bit. At the least, I wouldn't bash him. *snarls at Wheaton*

I mean, Wes was just a kid. Okay, a precocious one, but that's not unfathomable, especially in the rather utopian world of the future that Star Trek portrays. *shrug*

And yeah, lucky for that legacy (I only found out recently that the original series only has three seasons!). It didn't save Enterprise though. When they make good series like TNG and DS9, anything that comes after is kind of meh. That's all I thought of Enterprise when I tried to watch it. Meh.

[identity profile] tj-dragonblade.livejournal.com 2006-10-03 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
That's all I thought of Enterprise when I tried to watch it. Meh.

Heh. Me too. I couldn't get into it. The characters all seemed relatively...dull. Lacking the sort of inner fire that showed up in previous Trek incarnations. I don't know - maybe it's just time for the franchise to take a few years' break, refresh itself and start again in another five, ten years or so. *shrug* Or take DS9 to the big screen.

And yeah, I don't have the same starry-eyed view of Wesley as I used to, but I certainly don't find him intolerable and I do think fandom and the world at large are far too harsh on the kid. It's not his fault he's uber-smart and everyone else isn't. He needs a slogan like the old Pantene commercials, perhaps - "Don't hate me because I'm gifted." ^_^

[identity profile] sychogrl.livejournal.com 2006-10-03 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
The series is definitely best served by taking a long break. And yes, while we're at it, WHERE are the DS9 movies? I know they just finished wringing the last possible drop of story from TNG, which I will happily agree is the golden age of Trek, but who ISN'T up for some DS9 movie joy? I barely know anything about the series and I'D go see a DS9 movie.

I am sorry to hear you are sick. A quarter of a fresh lemon squeezed into hot water, taken as needed, is the best remedy I've found for any kind of "ugh can't breath" sort of illness.

But yay for labcoat! Here's the recipe for making it less packaged-rumbled and more Tenpou-rumpled that Tav and I used on both the labcoat and shirt:

1) Wash in washer, very hot and vigorous cycle, with towels or something.
2) Dry in dryer, very hot, with said towels or something.
3) (VERY IMPORTANT) Leave crumbled at bottom of dryer or laundry basket under aforementioned towels or something for 2-3 days.
4) Repeat 1-3 as needed to remove packaging creases.
5) Stuff/roll haphazardly, without towels or something, into a pillow case (plastic bags trap air and are hard to pack) until you're ready to wear them.
6) If too crumpled, hang them in the bathroom to be lightly steamed as you shower.

Ahh. Uh huh. *copiously takes notes* I see. Thank you! ^_^
