Gah. I've had this sitting in my drafts for well over a week now. Time is a scarce commodity these days, it seems, and I have so much I need to be getting done. *headdesk*

That character meme making the rounds - Zalia gave me Gojyo.

1. Do you like this character?
Absolutely. He's such a sweetheart underneath the swagger, and he has such a huge capacity to love, to look out for others. His kicked-puppy complex pushes my protective buttons, too.

2. What name/s do you call this character?
...Gojyo.

3. What colors do you associate with this character?
Red. Blood-red crimson red red. Minekura's made sure of that. ^_^

4. What songs do you associate with this character?
Most of the songs I associate with him are tied up in a sense of 585 applicability rather than just straight-up Gojyo, but there are a couple. Like Stray Cat Strut by the Stray Cats. If Gojyo was a cat, this would totally be his song. Someone did do a Gojyo-centric AMV with this once, but I wasn't able to find it again. Mm, 'Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?' as covered by The Revolting Cocks and Two Ball Loo's 'Mr. Right' come to mind, both mainly on account of his ladies' man persona. ^_^ Garbage's 'So Like a Rose', on a less superficial note.

5. What blood type do you think this character is?
According to the translation I've seen of his profile, it's B. Blood types apparently bear some influence/indication of personality traits in Japanese culture(?), but I've got no clue what each type indicates and can't really be arsed to look it up just now.

6. What character do you like to put with this character?
HAKKAI. Hakkai Hakkai Hakkai. And Hakkai. Hakuryuu on occasion in a threesomely fashion. I'll read other Gojyo pairings under the right circumstances, but I very much doubt I'll ever write him in anything outside a 585 +/- Jeep.

7. What would you want to say to this character?
You ARE worth it, sweetie. For all your apparent ego and vanity, your real self-esteem's somewhere down about your boot-heels and you need to hike it back up where it belongs. There's room in that great big heart of yours for yourself, y'know. ...Also, go shag Hakkai, like, NOW, because he really really wants you to and you know you want to too. And hey, can I watch? ^_~

8. Which do you want to do with this character: Shake hands, hug, fuck or kiss?
While I'm not opposed in the least to option numbers three and four, my first impulse would probably be to hug him. He's got an awful lot of love-and-affection deprivation from his childhood to make up for.

Anyone who wants to play, say so in comments and I'll hit you with a character.

Backlog of school journal entries. In which I ramble about weather and Hans Zimmer and parenting and other bits of miscellany.

This weekend, the weather was absolutely glorious. Sun and warmth and just...yes. ^_^ Good times. Got some spring cleaning-type stuff done, ash off the deck and such, interior detailing on the jeep, that sort of thing. Got a nice little bit of sunburn, and it feels good, oddly enough. Arizona sunburns, those hurt something fierce. This is just a little reminder that yes, weather was good, and probably won't be any better the rest of the summer. Geese are back, and so are the seagulls. That's one of the best things about this place this time of year - I love the cry of seabirds overhead. Don't care if they are 'flying rats' (husband's terminology, not mine). The sound is good for my soul, and visually I think they're lovely creatures. ^_^

I've come by a couple of soundtracks recently - The Last Samurai and King Arthur, because I'm quite fond of Hans Zimmer's style and am always delighted to discover another movie that he's scored. I was introduced to him via The Lion King back in my youth, which was also my intro to the reservedly-smouldering bit of loveliness that is Jeremy Irons, but that's beside the point. Hans Zimmer. I'd see his name thereafter in movie credits and go 'Oh, that explains why I was liking the sound of this so much' but it wasn't until Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3 that I actually started buying his soundtracks again. Had to replace my old Lion King cassette tape, too; I've since picked up the Madagascar 2 soundtrack and the two mentioned above. One day I'll sit down and look up a proper list of all the movies he's scored and start collecting in earnest. Crimson Tide and The Rock have been recced, and I know he did some animated horse film with words like stallion and spirit and...cimarron? in the title. Like I said. Must look it up. I like his style. I like the way he works, the setting-appropriate variations he'll incorporate - African sounds in Lion King, Japanese elements in Last Samurai, etc. I love the playfully-epic grandeur of his Pirates work, how he built on the musical themes he developed with Klaus Badelt in the first movie and completely polished them into greatness. Badelt's soundtrack, while quite good in its own right, sounds like a well-worked early draft; Zimmer's two sequels like the final product of that draft. There are subtle variances of tempo and presentation, a greater sense of passion to the main themes kept throughout. Such good stuff. And I love the new material he brought in for the sequels, too. The themes he composed for both Davy Jones and the Kraken - the former incorporates both Davy Jones' tragi-romantic past and his gloom-laden menacing present in the same lovely waltz-styled melody, the latter is chock-full of heavy-metal sensibilities and a deep-dark sense of foreboding in keeping with the legendary 'beastie' of the deep.

As a fun point of trivia, Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish lists Zimmer as one of his greatest influences; this is why, when AJ once commented that the end credits to the second Pirates movie 'sounds kinda like Nightwish', I had a grand flash of maternal pride in his musical ear. Oddly enough, Zimmer was also involved in Tarja Turunen's first solo album after her split from Nightwish. All of which probably goes rather a long way toward explaining my tastes and appreciation for all of the above. ^_^

Sunday, AJ went around the block to play at a friend's house. He walked, saying he didn't want his bike. Husband and I were out in the driveway; from there, as it happens, across the street and through a pair of yards we could see a little slice of the next street over where he'd gone to play. He doesn't know this. Very shortly, we saw him riding back and forth on one of his friends' bikes, without a helmet, which we've told him he's not to do. Now, he takes a walkie-talkie with him when he goes to play in the neighborhood, so that we can stay in touch and know where he's at/what he's doing and also call him home when it's time. So, I called him up on it and scolded him for riding someone else's bike and riding without a helmet, and told him to get back over here NOW and get his own bike. Oh, god, the look on his face when he came back--he's pale and shocked and all 'How did you know??' and just completely freaked out, and it's all I can do not to burst out laughing. We sent him on his way with his bike and his helmet and not a word of explanation on how he'd been caught. Hopefully that'll give him sufficient pause next time he thinks about doing something he knows he shouldn't.

*grin* Perpetuating the myth of parental omniscience - this is totally one of the perks of raising kids. ^_^

Music. One of the best things in life. Definitely. I searched up the keyword 'ocean' on iTunes just to see what turned up ('cause yeah, ocean, definitely a Theme of Great Resonance with me), and found quite a few songs that I ended up buying. One of them is by a band/artist called Collide, and after sampling more of their tunes on YouTube, I went ahead and bought the whole album. They're a UK outfit offering a very cool-mellow electronic meditative vibe with Indian flavors woven tastefully throughout. It's a nice breath of fresh air.

Ugh. I have heartburn from hell today. And my scar is paining me something fierce. AJ's got strepp again, somehow. I keep finding mosquito bites all over, which makes me vaguely regretful of all the time I spent outside this weekend. But not really. Rather, I wish I'd bothered with insect repellant. Overactive AC makes both work and school too friggin cold despite the lovely weather outside. Also, am peeved about the supplemental workbook that the booklist dictated was needed for this class that has not been used all quarter and probably won't be. Same thing happend last quarter with the prereq for this class. Sigh. Uhm. What else.

...Yeah, this kinda sucks as a journal entry. Maybe, if class lets out early enough tonight, I'll make a quick drive out to Beluga Point for a little proximity-to-ocean mind-clearing session. Maybe.
