I imagine they probably serve for sensing atmospheric shifts and pressure, wind currents and air quality and such. So of course they'd need to be highly sensitive and finely tuned; it follows logically that such high sensitivity might make them something of an erogenous zone as well and I just can't help taking full advantage of it. ^_^
