It's hard to gather coherent thoughts into words in reaction to Gaiden 30, beyond a sense of soaring admiration and wrenching loss all smushed into a mental space too small to contain them. So I'll quit trying. Anyone who needs/wants to see can either check out
saiyuki_manga or holler at me for an email copy.
I got my first professional haircut yesterday. Which was rather nervous-making. Not in an 'OMG-TJ's-scared-of-a-haircut??' way, but in being an unkown and unfamiliar situation, one that requires a certain amount of social intuition, and not feeling properly 'armed' to walk into it (i.e., what am I supposed to do? How am I supposed to act? Do I tip? What if they try to push their idea of what would look better on me instead of what I want?). It's one of the more irritating quirks of being me. I absolutely hate venturing into any new/unfamiliar/unknown situation without someone who a) is familiar with the situation in question and can guide/teach me through it, or b) knows no more about it than I do but lends a shitload of moral support just because we can flounder together. I hate to look stupid, I hate to be stupid, and I also don't want to be snowed in any way due to my lack of experience/foreknowledge.
But. The whole haircut venture went fine. I found my tongue enough to ask her to take a little more off after she 'finished' the first time and it was still too long for Tenpou-styling. It didn't kill me to ask if they work on tips, and if I did end up looking like an idiot in their eyes because of it, well, it's not like I planned on going back any time soon. ^_^; Gyaaargh.
So. Hair is evenly layered and properly cut and will fall at Tenpou-length when straightened. Things left to do before I leave for ycon Tuesday night:
- refresher/practice-run with the fresh cut and the straightening iron?
- print and bring the registration email
- pack shit up Sunday that won't be needed between now and departure
- find out how roaming works with my cell carrier
- AJ's appt Monday morning
- financial/registration/scheduling appt for IT-degree schooling Monday after work
- laundry
- finish packing Tuesday night
...which, when I look at it, is a pretty sparse list. This either means I'm pretty much prepared, or I'm forgetting/overlooking something...
